Teknoroof is a product that brings together different ventilated roofing functions: thermal insulation, micro-ventilation and protection from water infiltrations due to accidental damage of the roof covering.

In order to ensure the life of a discontinuous roof covering consisting of brick and/or concrete elements, such as pantiles or shingles, it is necessary to ensure micro-ventilation of the undercovering. 

During rainfall, the natural porosity of shingles and pantiles is temporarily saturated by the water.

While the water absorbed by the top section is quickly eliminated due to the sun and wind, the same cannot be said for the water absorbed by the bottom section, which can give way to dangerous phenomena, such as freezing, shingle weakening, damage to the battens and putrefaction of the insulating layer, which can therefore lose efficiency.

It is therefore necessary to ensure the same temperature and humidity conditions both on the top and the bottom side of the covering. This important objective is achieved through micro-ventilation underneath the shingle, which helps reduce the incoming thermal flow during the summer period and disperse any internal vapour during the winter period. This ventilation is obtained by allowing the air to reach the area underneath the shingle from the gutter line, and escape from the roof ridge line (ventilated roof ridge).



Efficient thermal insulation
Thanks to the 43 mm high metal profile, the micro-ventilation system guarantees the 220 cm2/linear metre of air section, establishing a significant air flow, evenly distributed along the whole roof. This makes it possible to achieve great performance levels in the dispersion of heat, and efficient thermal insulation of the structure underneath.


Extremely easy installation
The profile makes the mechanical fastening of the shingles above easier, holding them more safely and efficiently in position. The shingle installer has approximately 20 mm available to lay the shingle on the top of the roof batten and secure it in position.


A structure offering increase rigidity
The wide metal roof batten section ensures great mechanical resistance. Moreover, the spot welded closed box structure has a strong positive effect on the rigidity of the product.


Thicknesses for all needs
Length 2,400 mm. Pitch between 310 and 385 mm. Thicknesses between 60 and 120 mm.


More energy savings
The low thermal conductivity of Teknoroof boards (0.024 W/mK), together with the range of available thicknesses up to 120 mm, makes it possible to easily meet the requirements of Italian Legislative Decree 311/06 (dated 26 June 2015) in terms of thermal transmittance of the whole roof. For example, a roof with a Teknoroof board only 100 mm thick and brick-concrete, concrete or wood floors, normally has a transmittance below the 0.26 W/m2 K (climate zone E) limit for energy refurbishment. The Teknoroof system ensures efficient thermal insulation of the roof, with significant savings on heating costs of up to 40%.


A help towards waterproofing
If installed as described in the “installation instructions”, the Teknoroof system protects from water infiltrations caused by accidental roof covering damage.

Installation instructions

Teknoroof boards must be installed starting from the gutter line and moving towards the roof ridge, from left to right. Any board excess must be installed at the start of the subsequent line. This important precaution during installation ensures:

  • maximum limitation of waste;
  • offset board joints across the different rows.

Teknoroof is installed on all types of continuous (brick-concrete, timber roof deck) or non-continuous (wooden or steel rafters) floors. Before laying the boards, the application of breathable and waterproofing membranes is also recommended.

1. Board fastening

  • We recommend at least 4 fastening points per m2;
  • The fastenings must be applied from the back of the roof batten.
  • The fastening must penetrate the underlying structure following the indications of the plug manufacturer

Brick-concrete structure:
Fastening using expansion plugs.

Wooden structure:
Fastening using nails or wood screws.

Iron structure:
Fastening using self-tapping or self-drilling screws.

2. Joint seal

Silicone must be applied to the side joints of the boards before joining them together, following by waterproofing, by applying butyl adhesive tape on the surface.

3. Board cutting

Boards can be cut using a rigid blade saw for the cutting of the foam section and an angle grinder for the metal roof batten. After being cut to size, the board can be installed and fastened in position.

Start from the gutter line

Teknoroof boards in contact with the joggle (in the board thickness) will be trimmed to the size required to ensure hooking of the pantiles or shingles of the first row, and correct protrusion in order for rain water to escape correctly.

Ventilated roof ridge

The boards of the last row will be trimmed at the width required to reach the roof ridge. Any gaps will be sealed using polyurethane foam. The roof ridge will be on brackets, or similar, that will allow the air to escape freely.

The lack of shingle support roof batten near the ridge will be compensated by the installation of a “loose” roof batten, to ensure continuity of the structure and shingle support.

Valleys, ridges and emerging bodies

All the joint lines between roof pitches will be sealed with polyurethane foam and waterproofed using the appropriate butyl aluminium tape. All the emerging bodies of the roof, such as flues, ducts, dormers, roof windows, etc., must be joined to the boards using polyurethane foam and sealed with butyl aluminium tape.

The board weight is very low (e.g. approximately 1.6 kg/lm,
thickness 100 mm), and allows for easy and quick overhead handling.
